Product properties and applications
Methyl cellulose (MC) & Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) is Non-ionic cellulose ether produced from natural high molecular cellulose, through series of chemical reaction and process.
They are characterized by the colorless, odorless, non-toxic white powder, water-soluble,
Has a good thickening, adhesion, dispersion, emulsification, film-forming, suspending, absorbing, gelling, surface activity, water retention and protective colloid properties.
Therefore, HPMC it is widely used in construction, paint, synthetic resin, ceramics, pharmaceutical, food, tobacco, textile, daily chemical, petrochemical and electronic industries.
Products property:
1. Solubilizes in cold-water and come into being transparent thicken solution.
2. Solvency in organic solution: HPMC can solubilize in organic solution as content hydrophobic methoxy, and can solubilize in the mixture of water and organic solution.
3. Salt tolerance: It is a non-ionic mixture, in the water solution of metal salts and organic electrolyte which is stable.
4. Surface activity: Water solution of HPMC has surface activity, emulsification, protective colloid and relative stability property.
5. Thermal gelation property: HPMC water solution become opacity when heated in certain temperature, until the entire solution to congeal into a semi-flexible mass that can no longer flow, then loose the viscosity. It is recover when the temperature drop down. The temperature of gelation appearance depend on the type, solution concentration and speed of heating.
6. Low ash content: As the thermal gelation property, fine process with hot water wash make the low ash content.
7. pH stability: The viscosity of water solution keep the stability within the pH 3.0-11.0.
8. Water retain: Hydrophilicity of HPMC make it retain the water of mortar, plaster, paint.
9. Shape keeping: Compare other water soluble polymer, HPMC water solution has special viscoelasticity. HPMC can keep the shape of squeezed ceramic product.
10. Lubrication: Add HPMC can reduce friction factor and enhance the lubrication of squeezed ceramic and cement product.
11. Film forming: HPMC can formed tough, transparent, good mechanical property film, has oil resistant property.
Physical-chemical properties
1. Appearance: White powder, colorless, odorless, non-toxic.
2. Particle size: The passage rate of 100 mesh is more than 98.5%; And 80 mesh is 100%.
3. density: 0.25-0.70g/cm . Specific gravity 1.26-1.31
4. Discolor temperature: 190-200 centigrade.
5. Surface tension: 42-56 dyn/cm in 2% aqueous solution.
6. Solubility: Solve in water and part solvents, aqueous solution has surface activity. High transparent, stability, solubility wave with the viscosity, lower viscosity high solubility.
HPMC has thickening, salt resistant, pH stability, water retain, shape stability, excellent film forming and widely enzyme resistance, dispersion, adhesion etc.
